Statement of Intent
My subject for this project is shopping. Shopping plays a vital role in the world we live in, and urban photography is a genre I love. The topic also allows me to demonstrate a broad range of photography styles and subjects.
I explore, colour, light and repetition within my experiments and photographs, creating images that, hopefully, draw in the viewer.
The photographers I have chosen, have inspired many elements in my work, such as the symmetry and the colour palette. Andreas Gursky’s compositions and edits, create more visually appealing images, making them almost other-worldly. In William Eggleston’s work, his vibrant colour palettes, and the way he uses colour helps to guide and focus the viewer’s eye.
I take inspiration from these incredible artists and create my own work, capturing the heart of London’s Soho, with its bustling bars and restaurants, and vibrant street life. I also look at crowded markets, products on offer, the consumers, the shop owners, and shop signage.
Using light, colour, and form I present images of urban life that explore the various aspects of the shopping experience.
